Asian Games

Asian Games, a multi-sport event for all Asian countries, this year was held in Indonesia more specifically in Jakarta and Palembang from August 18 to September 2, 2018. This is the 18th edition of the tournament, which first began in 1951 in New Delhi, and it is set to host around 10,000 athletes in 40 sports from 45 countries. While Indonesia will host the Asian Games for the second time, after the Jakarta Asian Games in 1962, it is the first time that the games are being hosted by two cities together. Organisers are hoping the 2018 edition can surpass the success of the 1962 Games.
This year’s Asian Games has it’s own mascot. There are 3 mascots for the 18th Asian Games. the government and the people who’s in charged has selected 3 among Indonesia's many unique wildlife as mascots, to simultaneously promote these for their protection and conservation. Bhin bhin, the enchanting colorful Bird of Paradise that is endemic to Papua and Raja AmpayAtung  the Bawean deer, that is now found only on this tiny island off the city of Surabaya, and Kaka  the one-horned Javan Rhino, now only found in the protected Ujung Kulon Park, at the east-most corner of Java. Together these mascots symbolize Indonesia's diversity in culture as well as in wildlife.
Indonesia has spent more than $3 billion on preparations for the Asian Games, with the government projecting that it will produce immediate and long-term benefits for the country. While investments have been made in infrastructure development and in addressing the traffic issues in Jakarta, some observers say it is a missed opportunity to tackle fundamental problems and improve lives in the city of 10 million people.
The 18th Asian Games is not just all about games and competition, it is primarily about the Indonesian people, about its food, culture, music and its reputation. More than 30,000 young people are helping with the Games from all over the country and they are symbolic of Indonesia’s hopes of raising a generation who are more in touch with the world in all aspects of life. The people are also excited and very enthusiast about the Games. They unite together to welcome the 18th Games and be on their best behaviour to prove that Indonesia is a great host.
In conclusion, the 18th Asian Games brings a lot of advantage to Indonesia. Not only in the economy field, but also in the social and cultural field. Hopefully through the 18th Asian Games, Indonesia could be a better and more improved country.
